SM4RTENANCE: trusted data sharing for manufacturing equipment industry

Optimization of predictive maintenance activities in the machine tool industry

SM4RTENANCE is a DEP project funded by the European Union, involving a consortium of over 45 partners from 11 EU countries.


The project aims to optimize predictive maintenance activities in the machine tool sector by leveraging the secure sharing of data regarding digital production assets between the various stakeholders in the supply chain. This will be achieved by creating a federation of existing data spaces.

SCENARIO

Need

The industry demonstrated the potential of data- and AI-driven algorithms for predictive maintenance (PdM) and dynamic asset management services in small-scale trials. In parallel, embryonic data spaces and strategic European infrastructures for digital sovereignty in the manufacturing sector were created: the EDIH network, the AI TEF facilities, the DSSC support center, the DOME marketplace, OSS Data Space connectors and evaluation facilities. The need now arises to make all these assets interoperable.

Solution

Sm4rtenance has the following objectives:

  • Harmonize a federation of data spaces that brings together the embryonic assets DAW Aero Data Marketplace, SCSN, X-Chain, BAIDATA and the new Manufacturing-X initiative leading to the testing and deployment of the solution.

  • Modernize IoT and PdM service platforms to provide native connection and support to data sharing solutions.

  • Demonstrate and evaluate the performance of multilateral digital value chains for collaborative and circular maintenance in 5 areas of strategic impact for European industrial sovereignty.


Cefriel is a technological partner expert in dataspace who accompanies the development of pilots and supports partners dedicated to the federation’s development.

The project supports participation in the federated data space with dedicated training programs, EDIH services and clear guidelines, codes of conduct and industry agreements across the federation
