RIDE2RAIL for sustainable mobility
How to improve local mobility services
Data sharing and analysis of people travel habits contribute to improve urban mobility services. RIDE2RAIL is a three-year project started in 2019 within the Shift2Rail European program and aims at promoting an effective ride-sharing practice by citizens, as well as making it a complementary transport mode that extends ride and rail public transport services.
Cefriel’s contributions to the RIDE2RAIL project are multiple, including the survey designed and implemented to identify users’ choice criteria and travel preferences, by using , our innovative solution to design and administer conversational surveys.

Need
We have to cope with various challenges for an innovative, efficient, and sustainable future, including:
- identify and conceptualize travellers’ choice criteria and preferences;
- define incentives to be adopted to influence users in choosing travel categories and raising awareness on more sustainable solutions.
Solution
The RIDE2RAIL solution Cefriel provides for intelligent mobility will support users to compare and choose between different travel offers, leveraging the capability to integrate and harmonise in real-time diverse information about public transport and ride-sharing.
RIDE2RAIL enables to reinforce multimodal mobility offers, especially in rural and low-demand areas, and to promote access to mobility hubs (typically railway stations and public transport stops) and collective transport.
Impact
600+ engaged users
Our conversational survey, translated into 11 languages and distributed at European level, enabled data collection on choice criteria and travel preferences of over 600 European travellers.
Supporting informed travel choices
Users will be enabled to compare and choose between multiple travel solutions, ranked according to their preferences and classified by a set of criteria – including environmental impact, travel time, comfort, and cost.
Field testing in 4 cities
Ride2Rail will deliver a set of validated proof of concepts and business cases in 4 European cities (Padua, Athens, Brno, and Helsinki), envisaging future mobility scenarios where advanced transport solutions will be seamlessly integrated into existing collective transport services.
Connecting rural areas to mobility hubs
The project will develop a solution to promote and increase citizen access to mobility hubs in rural and low-demand area, as well as the use of the diverse high-capacity transport services.
