In the current scenario of IoT pervasiveness, SDF - one of the world’s leading manufacturers of tractors, harvesting machines - has started a digital transformation project to support companies in improving operational efficiency and planning of agricultural crops, by providing a set of services and integrated functionalities.


SDF Data Platform, the digital solution developed with Cefriel, provides new digital services and fosters, through data collection and analysis, an increasingly sustainable production cycle of agricultural activities, thus reducing both wasting and inefficiencies.

Need

Supporting SDF in evolving its “core” offer – tractors and harvesting machines – by providing its clients with new digital and connected services, so to improve the results of the whole agricultural production cycle.

Creating an interoperable system that enables SDF vehicles and assets to be integrated in a multi-vendor scenario, through an open ecosystem that can be easily used by end customers.

Improving operational efficiency and planning of agricultural crops through the collected data.

Enabling predictive maintenance scenarios, thus providing farmers with timely visibility into vehicle usage and operating status to anticipate failures or malfunctions.

Solution

SDF Data Platform is an innovative digital platform that is capable of collecting, storing, processing, and sharing data from connected vehicles, implements and sensors in the field, so to improve operational efficiency and optimize the whole production cycle of agricultural activities.

The Platform is developed in the cloud to provide and agile and resilient solution. Developed in collaboration with Cefriel and enabled by IBM Watson IOT Platform and IBM Cloud technology, it is actually an open ecosystem that connects multiple data sources, so to create an interoperable system, easily used by end customers through front-end applications.

The possibility to share the data collected with digital farming applications developed by third parties allows vehicles to be integrated in a multi-vendor scenario: a further and particularly relevant added value for the end customer, considering the presence in many farms of machines of different manufacturers not yet enabled to "dialogue" among them.

Predictive maintenance to enhance productivity


By leveraging data collected from connected vehicles, farmers will be provided with timely visibility into vehicle usage and operating status to be able to anticipate failures or malfunctions that could result in reduced productivity.

Precision farming enabling services


The innovative multi-vendor integration, concerning all vehicles (both new production vehicles, natively equipped with a control unit with connectivity, and the existing fleet through available aftermarket solutions), as well as connected sensors in the field, enable SDF to offer users actually new value-added services such as predictive maintenance, fleet management, and precision farming services.
