D-Air® Street for riders' safety

Protecting human life is the core business of Dainese company. For many years now, Dainese has been a synonym not only of sports clothing for riders, but also and principally of body safety and protection. Dainese’s tracksuites are now a benchmark in the international sportswear scenario. They are born from a great experience and accuracy in the choice of materials and design of solutions.

D-Air® Street is the result of Dainese culture and experience, his constant push towards innovation, and the contribution of ICT and CEFRIEL know-how.

The idea is to provide jackets and overalls for the riders with an airbag to protect his body in case of accidents and falls. The highly innovative device integrates the great professionalism and skill of Dainese in materials selection and textile components design (the airbag bag) with a high sophisticated use of digital technologies. These technologies have to detect in a reliable and safe way the conditions that activate the airbag, with response times that guarantee the effective protection of the person.

While in the racing world the pilot must be mainly protected from slides, on the road it is important to protect the rider (and also the passenger on the pillion) from head-on and side impacts. This means the development of more sophisticated algorithms and adoption of more sensitive sensors. Besides, the very diverse use conditions (street, weather, travel length) require the D-Air® Street solution to be intrinsically resistant so as to prevent it from opening accidentally.

Conceiving and designing D-Air® Street required a pool of very sophisticated competences: use and treatment of synthetic and natural materials for the suit, design of small-sized digital systems, development of algorithms and critical control software, assessment of reliability and intrinsic safety requirements. Moreover, it involved the adoption of very advanced textiles to create airbag systems with inflation control, and gas generators with very reduced dimensions to be embedded into the rider's suit without affecting the guide comfort. Everything must be designed, developed and produced in accordance with the most rigorous international safety standards, to guarantee users an absolute protection.
